RE

How do we promote learning in R.E.

RE is timetabled so that pupils are provided with 39 hours of RE each year. The subject will be delivered through a combination of weekly lessons, cross curricular days / weeks or other project time.

Lessons are normally taught by the class teacher. The school has a RE subject leader who supports and monitors the subject.

We encourage and promote teaching and learning through an active approach that encourages the pupils to reflect on their own views and experience.

What does R.E. look like at St John's

It provides opportunities to: observe religious activities, investigate and ask relevant questions about religious experiences, draw meaning from artefacts, art forms and symbolism, suggest meanings of religious texts, consider the thoughts, feelings and experiences of religious believers, use silence and stillness for reflections using thinking skills and respond thoughtfully to religious issues through a variety of media.
It is creative and makes learning enjoyable.
It is supported through links with the local and wider community, including visits to churches and other faith buildings.
